The Fire Children - An African Creation Myth
MUSICAL LEGENDS brings to life this lively, musical rendition of an African Creation Myth, as retold in a children's story book, celebrating the earth and its’ people of many different shades and colors.
As this joyful tale unfolds with Djembe Drum, Thumb Piano, and Shekere, the entire audience joins in with the storytellers through movement games, songs and African dance motions. Life sized Akuaba dolls and tribal Moon Mask help create a stimulating visual backdrop for these masterful storytellers.
CRAFT WORKSHOP
Immediately following the performance or as a stand alone event, participants create their own props called Akuabas, symbols of beautiful and healthy children found in “THE FIRE CHILDREN”.
Participants decorate them with stencils made from Kente and Adinkra cloth designs, the significance of each element explored in this exciting workshop where children can make their Akuaba look like themselves or their friends encouraging us all to celebrate eachother’s uniqueness and similarity.
