Steel the Show:
Explore the history and music of Calypso & Reggae traditions with live Steel Pan Drumming, Vocals and Percussion. Musician Melvin Dean has performed at numerous venues from private parties to world festivals including: The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Carnegie Hall, Regis & Kathie Lee Live and The Ed Sullivan Show.
Tell Me a Story:
Storyteller, actress and playwright Veona Thomas tells stories from many lands with a special interest in African, African-American and Native American traditions. She delights young and old alike with puppets, props, instruments, call and response songs, sign language and the language of each culture. Craft and dramatic action workshops also available.
History of the Drum:
A Master Percussionist with over 20 years of experience teaches children about the various percussion instruments and rhythmic patterns from Africa, South and North America and The Caribbean. Through performance, storytelling, interactive participation, music making and craft workshops, this unique program combines literacy and creative writing components.
The Spirit Ensemble:
Pulsating and bright rhythms of sounds and colors created with exotic and traditional instruments of the world - mbira, kora, shekere, steel pan, hand drums, bamboo flute and voices - weaving a tapestry of percussive patterns and melodies. Instrument making workshops and lecture demonstrations are also available |
